Nearly a year ago, GE launched its advanced cooling solutions program featuring GenGard* technology. Today, many industrial applications choose GenGard chemistry to treat their water cooling systems. GenGard chemistry features GE’s patented Stress Tolerant Polymer (STP) and is superior to other chemistries across the entire pH spectrum, from neutral to alkaline. Additionally, GenGard* is halogen stable, allowing cost-effective microbial control and it contains no heavy metal tracers, reducing its environmental impact. But, the real benefit to using GenGard chemistry is cost savings.

GenGard in action

A European industrial producer needed to reduce effluent phosphate levels and, with the price of sulfuric acid rising, wanted to reduce their cooling tower system’s consumption of sulfuric acid. GE upgraded the existing treatment system to the GenGard program.

The switch to GenGard did not require any special change in materials used, tank or container cleaning, or flushing of dosing lines or pumps thanks to the product’s similar physical properties and material resistance profile. After twelve months, target phosphate and pH levels were consistently achieved with no decline to system protection and no adverse impact on corrosion of mild steel (rates less than 1.0 mpy). With targets reached, the producer saved 100,000 m3/year in water consumption and total cost savings (from acid and water) total more than US$135,000/year. [Download entire case study]

How can GenGard reduce total costs for your operation?

With rising energy costs and strains on capacity, facilities strive to optimize efficiency while keeping costs in check. GenGard remains cost-competitive when compared to other, lesser products on the market. It’s superior performance often allows customers to cycle their cooling water more times before discharging it to drain, reducing their water consumption and their water footprint. In addition, because the chemistry is so forgiving, its use ensures clean heat exchangers, lowering energy consumption and maximizing production and throughput. Unscheduled shutdowns and cleanings are minimized, too, reducing your labor costs.

Through optimized total water and process system performance, reduced operating costs and extended equipment life, GenGard translates into savings for your facility. To learn more about GenGard technology and GE’s advanced cooling solutions, click here.
