The NSWA has been involved in the reporting on the state and health of the North Saskatchewan River(NSR) basin and watershed. In 2003 the organization released the state of the NSR watershed report. Since that time, the NSWA was designated as the Watershed Planning and Advisory Council (WPAC) for the NSR reporting to the Government of Alberta on progress of initiatives on the NSR and the Government of Alberta's sustainability objectives released in the Water For Life (WFL) program. As the WPAC for the NSR, the NSWA will be required to make recommendations to the GOA, on water conservation objective and an Integrated Watershed Management Plan to meet the 3 main objectives of WFL, 1- safe secure drinking water supply, 2-Healthy aquatic ecosystem, 3-Reliable, Quality water supplies for a sustainable economy. In light of all the recent development pressures in the region, this presentation will highlight these water challenges with a closer look at options that can be considered for industrial water reuse, and the challenges to maintaining the level of development while maintaining the objectives of the Governments Water For Life program.
