Abundant fresh water for a thirsty world Scarcity of fresh water has serious implications. It can slow or stop economic
expansion, reduce agricultural output, hamper food independence, and degrade
public health and quality of life. Water scarcity relief programs from GE Water
& Process Technologies help businesses, communities and nations ensure abundant
water supplies at reasonable cost. Our programs include:
GE built the Sulaibiya Project in Kuwait, the world's largest membrane-based wastewater reclaim facility. We also work with industry and public policy leaders to raise awareness of the need to protect water sources.
We have the world's largest installed base of desalination systems for seawater and brackish waters. GE equipped and operates the largest seawater desalting facility in the Western Hemisphere in Trinidad. In early 2008, we commissioned the
Hamma Project in Algeria, the largest desalination project in Africa.
We operate the world's largest mobile desalination fleet for critical peak demands and emergencies. Our mobile water units aided victims of the 2004 Asian tsunami. We also helped a Thailand chemical plant avoid a production shutdown despite a chronic fresh water shortage.
Our key technologies include a wide range of reverse osmosis (RO) and electrodialysis reversal (EDR) systems. We also package desalination systems with clean, efficient energy sources of almost any size.
